Sr. Linux- DevOps Engineer with 20th Century Fox, LA CA

Position Title:                                                     Sr. Linux- DevOps Engineer                       
Client:                                                                   20th Century Fox NV                                        
Duration:                                                             full time
Work Location:                                                    Los Angeles, California, United States
Provides advanced-level data systems administration, engineering design, implementation, documentation, and troubleshooting with partic ular focus on media distribution infrastructure environments. Provides systems support services at an advanced level to application developers, end users, and other operational personnel. Provides group design and product recommendations and configurations. Resolves client business systems and application problems through research, systems installation and customization, systems administration and management support. Media transfer experience with acceleration software such as Aspera and/or Signinant technology is desirable.
These systems are used worldwide for multiple Business Units to deliver both television and theatrical content with extremely tight SLAs. This position will work closely with these BU�s, both with their technical support teams as well as their managers and executives, to bring great designs and quick resolutions to any infrastructure challenges that may arise.
Responsibilities:
Design and Architecture
             Leads and participates in projects as the Unix/Linux Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Develops budget estimates and project plans for Unix/Linux activities.
  • Performs systems architecture design.
  • Responsible for design reviews and technology and tool selection.
  • Keeps current on operating systems, hardware, 3rd party tools, and industry standards.
2. Maintenance
             Installs and configures RHEL and OEL using kickstart.
  • Plans, schedules and performs Hardware and OS maintenance, including firmware upgrades and patch installation.
  • Performs capacity planning.
  • Creates and executes scripts for various OS and software maintenance activities.
  • Provides guidelines for development and production.
  • Performs operating systems tuning including monitoring, troubleshooting and optimization of Unix/Linux Servers.
  • Defines and adheres to departmental standards and methodologies.
3. Archival, Backup and Recovery
            Develops archival, backup and recovery strategy.
  • Plans, performs and monitors Unix/Linux OS backups.
  • Performs Unix/Linux OS recoveries.
4. Security
          Makes recommendations on existing projects to improve systems security.
  • Maintains and monitors Unix/Linux platform security.
5. Production Support
          Provides, on an as-needed basis, 4th level escalation for service outages and application troubleshooting
6. Administration
              Communicates plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis.
  • Adheres to and enforces department standards, policies, procedures and industry best practices.
7. Other Duties As Required
Minimum 5-7 years in a lead role supporting large corporate Unix/Linux environments
  • Excellent understanding and working experience with RHEL 5,6,7 and OEL 5,6,7
  • Excellent understanding and working experience with VMWare and Virtualization technologies
  • Strong knowledge of Shell scripting with hands-on experience.
  • Strong knowledge and working experience in installing, configuring and administering Oracle Cluster File System 2 (OCFS2).
  • Strong knowledge and working experience in installing, configuring and administering Quantum SNFS File system
  • Experience with automation and configuration management platforms like Chef or Puppet (preferred)
  • Experience with file transfer acceleration tools like Aspera or Signiant (preferred)
  • Experience with log management using Splunk, Log Stash, or syslog.d (preferred)

  • Strong relationship management and negotiation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong ability to interpret impact of technology choices.
  • Expert skills in the Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Visio).

Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)

Education:
B.S. degree in a computer, physical sciences or engineering related discipline. This requirement may be waived only if the candidate demonstrates expert technical abilities.
Language Skills:
Candidate must be fluent in English. Other language skills a plus.
Travel
Light travel may be required. Candidate must have a valid passport.
